Family Memory; Pippik Ducks Bite

The Memory of Blood, by Christopher Fowler
This book didn't really hang together for me like some of my favorites in the series. The Punch and Judy stuff was nifty though.

The Family Tree, by David McPhail
Beautiful, gentle, and moving illustrations - reminiscent of Sendak in certain modes - but the story fizzled out into implausibility at the end.

A Hen for Izzy Pippik, by Aubrey Davis, illustrated by Marie Lafrance
A marvelous story, predictable but exciting in the way the best kids' tales sometimes are, with lovely, lissome pictures.

Just Ducks, by Nicola Davies, illustrated by Salvatore Rubbino
The images and words carry the creators' enthusiasm very well, and it's catching. I liked the mix of "story book" text and "science book" text, and the way the author called the reader's attention to the latter.

Spider's Bite, by Jennifer Estep
This book was rather rough around the edges, and certain things were implausible and repetitive in ways that sat uncomfortably with my personal history, and it was quite gory at times... but I still really enjoyed it. I was kind of SURPRISED to be enjoying it sometimes, but I did. The good parts are very good indeed.

We Can Remember It for You Wholesale and other classic stories by Phiilip K. Dick

I've reallyy been into short storied and enjoyed all of the ones in this book. They were all sci-fi, most based on "Terra" and various alternate universes of Earth, involving human and non-human sentient creatures. Several stories included robots and most were futuristic.

I gather from the stories that Dick must have been a smoker. Each and every single story had a character that smoked.

The book's namesake story reminds me of the movie "Total Recall"...too bad the movie (and its remake) didn't stick entirely to the original storyline.
