47 THE HOMECOMING Harold Pinter (England, 1964)
Class: Theatre History Part II
Teddy, who now lives in America, has decided to come back to London for a few days in order to introduce his wife Ruth to his father, two brothers and uncle. But the real homecoming of the play is not Lenny's, it is Ruth's. Her sexuality reestablishes a lost order in the family.
I have mixed feelings about this play. The sharp language and the absurdity and violence of the situations were quite fascinating. But there is something so profoundly disgusting about the characters that I could not bring myself to love it.
It is a fascinating play though.
