118. Beezus and Ramona

Beezus and Ramona
by Beverly Cleary

A huge step up in quality from the Henry Huggins books. Though I'm guessing a big part of that is just that Beezus and, especially, Ramona Quimby are much more interesting characters. But this is also just more confident writing and better stories. I was also glad that the version of this that I read had the original Louis Darling illustrations. They are 10,000x better than the new illustrations that were put in the reissues of all of Beverly Cleary's books a few years ago. I'm not sure why the illustrations were changed since Darling's illustrations really aren't dated at all, except maybe in that the adult female characters are in dresses all the time. 159 pages.
