Probably my least favorite of the Phillip Marlowe books so far. It's not a bad read at all, but none of the characters really grabbed me which made the overall story a bit weak. I did like the constant passing of the twenty dollars back and forth between Marlowe and Orfamay Quest. That was an amusing touch. 238 pages. Grade: B

Most of the criticisms of this book are valid--Harry's CAPS LOCK teen angst gets very old quickly, Rowling has a horrible sense of humor and relies on Uranus jokes too often, etc. But I still really like it. The scenes with Harry teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts are some of my favorites in the entire series and I'm also a big fan of Dumbledore and Harry's conversation at the end. 870 pages. My least favorite of the Henry Huggins/Ramona Quimby books. Unless it's Watership Down or The Secret of Nimh, I'm just not a big fan of books giving human emotions to animals. It's not a bad book, just the weakest of this series. 220 pages. Grade: C+
