38. Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie - Stiefvater, Maggie
I liked Stiefvater's werewolf book, Shiver, and I've already preordered its sequel, Linger. Not my favorites, but a nice change from vampires! I liked these modern faerie books by her even better. The focus on music was cool, and I thought the main characters had a fun friendship, even with the required unrequited love storyline. I would have been totally in love with James in high school, especially how he's portrayed in the second book. I was very disappointed in the turn in Dee's character in the second book, though. It was an unexpected, unmotivated, unexplained, and unwelcome change. I assume this will be a continuing series and that she will be redeemed.
Now I'm reading the next Vampire Academy book, Spirit Bound. And I somehow bought the next Anita Blake book, Bullet, even though I hate her character and find Laurell K. Hamilton's writing completely appalling. The mystery's are usually pretty good, though. I guess I'm a sucker for punishment. And it's not YA, but it's still brain candy.
