Book 36 for 2010

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. 280 pages.

A good, quick, fun read. Artemis Fowl is a young criminal genius, and in this first book he's plotting to steal gold from the fairy folk.

Good characters and worldbuilding and a plot worth the name. Vaguely reminiscent of Pratchett at times and I mean that as a compliment - it gives me hope for the Hitchhiker's sequel by Colfer currently sitting in my TBR pile.

I was a little nonplussed at a male character being named after a Greek goddess, but that's a minor nitpick.

I've already set about acquiring the next book in the series.
