16/50 Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates

Disturbing tale told from the perspective of a killer struggling with his derangement. JCO has successfully climbed into the head of a young man who is obsessed with the idea of creating his own personal Zombie. She relates his thoughts to us, the reader, in the same jumbled, intense way that the main character must think them.  She lets us piece together the story from these thoughts, with no clarifying narration from an outside point of view. It's a riveting story that becomes sickeningly clear by the end. Good read.
