240. The Egg and I

The Egg and I
by Betty MacDonald

Started: November 27, 2010
Finished: December 1, 2010

Since I've had a cough that I can't get rid of since the start of November, I decided that I wanted to reread MacDonald's chronicle of a year spent in a tuberculosis sanitarium, The Plague and I. Unfortunately, for only the second time since I moved to Austin, the public library does not have a copy of that book so I decided to reread MacDonald's more famous The Egg and I. I read this book twenty times as a kid, but I never realized just how grown-up much of the humor was until now. It holds up remarkably well and is still very funny in parts, especially those dealing with the Kettles. 287 pages. Grade: B+
