The Vampyre

The Vampyre
Author: John William Polidori
Genre: Classics, Gothic, Dark Fantasy
Pages: 40
Summary from Goodreads (edited down and linked above):The Vampyre - is a short story written by John William Polidori and is a progenitor of the romantic vampire genre of fantasy fiction.

Polidori transformed the vampire from a character in folklore into the form we recognize today - an aristocratic fiend who preys among high society.

Comments: This is a quick, interesting read. It's nice to see the short story that inspired a lot of other vampire fiction (Dracula included!). It was a bit clunky for me to get through though but that's mainly because I don't particularly enjoy the style of writing that was used, but it was still short and good. Reading other reviews of it made me really want to read Carmilla now.

I remember reading A Christmas Carol when I was young. The appearance of Marley's Ghost always creeped me out a lot.

Same feeling about Murukami. I wish he would leave them out.

I'm with you. I want non-fiction to be just that. Yeah he definitely crossed the lines at the most salacious bits. And you're right in this case there was no need to fictionalize it to make it…
