Ender in Exile
by Orson Scott Card

Started/Finished: September 26, 2011

An unnecessary sequel for the most part but still basically enjoyable if you've read the other books in the series. 377 pages. Grade: B-
Sixpence House: Lost in a Town of Books
by Paul Collins

Started: September 26, 2011
Finished: September 28, 2011

Reasonably entertaining account of the author's move to Ham-on-Wye, a Welsh town with 1,500 residents and forty used bookstores. Collins does tend to write overly-complicated sentences sometimes but I enjoyed this overall. 247 pages. Grade: B+
The Thin Red Line
by James Jones

Started: September 26, 2011
Finished: September 28, 2011

I still like From Here to Eternity better. This is great writing but the characters just aren't quite as deep. It reads kind of like a really intelligent action movie. 495 pages. Grade: A-
Candy Girl: A Year in the Life of an Unlikely Stripper
by Diablo Cody

Started: September 28, 2011
Finished: September 29, 2011

I liked learning about the behind-the-scenes workings of Minnesota strip clubs and peep shows, but her writing does get a little too clever for its own good at times. She thinks she's wittier than she really is. I also would have liked to have seen a bit more real introspection into why Cody decided to start stripping instead of the shrug of the shoulders that she gives for the most part. 212 pages Grade: B+
Total # of books read in 2011: 116
Total # of pages read in 2011: 33,280
