This holiday themed Flavia story is rather short on mystery but long on character. I really enjoyed it. To keep the family going in their bankrupt state, Flavia's father has allowed a movie crew to film there. The famous Phyllis Wyveryn will be staying under their room. Flavia isn't quite that impressed. She's busy setting a sticky trap on the chimney for Father Christmas whom she wants to prove exists. Also she's hard at work trying to make christmas fireworks.
It's just around the novel's halfway point before the murder happens. It's not much of an investigation but it's enough to get Flavia under the gun.
Her sisters are still more awful than I want to believe can be true (and younger than I thought) And I still have my doubts Flavia's mother is actually dead. Still overall I enjoyed this one.
