This was the first full-length Sherlock Holmes mystery that I read, and I quite enjoyed it, though I was surprised at the fact that the hound itself barely appeared, and the fact that Sherlock Holmes himself seemed to be absent for almost half of the book, with Doctor Watson narrating and being involved in most of the action.
The explanation at the end is a bit long-winded and overly complex, but the build up of atmosphere, especially with the images of the foggy moors of Devon was very enjoyable.
