I've read in the past a number of Osprey books dealing with pirates. Yesterday, I finished reading Osprey Warrior #158: Pirate: The Golden Age which I found most interesting of the lot, because the author points out the very short lifespan of a typical pirate of the era that gets the most notice. Even the most experienced of the pirates rarely survived more than four years of their actions at sea. It was a very intriguing read, therefore, because it didn't try to promulgate the myth of pirate riches and fun.
