First was Medicus, but Ruth Downie, which is a mystery set in the Roman Empire, on its northern edge...Britain in the beginning of Hadrian's rule. The protagonist is a doctor with the XX Legion, which makes the whole story a bit more riveting. He is well-defined, and believable, and he's thrown into investigating a series of murders. It's the first book of a series, so I'll be on the lookout for more.
The second was Osprey New Vanguard #143: US Cruisers 1883 – 1904: The Birth of the Steel Navy, which deals with the fleet that won the Spanish-American War. Mostly, it's tables of details about the various classes. There are bits and pieces of information, but I've enjoyed other Ospreys more than this one.
