Hyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That HappenedHyperbole and a Half: Unfortunate Situations, Flawed Coping Mechanisms, Mayhem, and Other Things That Happened by Allie Brosh

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked this up because of a reading challenge for a humor book. That said, I knew I would enjoy it. I love Allie's blog and some of that is in this book. Maybe all of it is (and I somehow missed some of it).

It's a hard book to review in that sense since it's mostly just her blog posts mashed together but that's just fine with me. I love her blog posts. They're funny without being vulgar and cursing overly much (okay I can be vulgar and I curse but I hate that most humor today seems to be ONLY those things and nothing else).

Her dogs make me laugh. Stealing birthday cake, ditto.

Not all of it is bust a gut funny. Her look at depression and inability to motivate hit very close to the bone for me. I'm not going to call her treatment of these topics lighthearted, not in the least but that same sardonic outlook is hidden there.

I'm still trying to figure out how she makes her stick figure drawings so endearing.

I enjoyed it. If nothing else, go look up her blog. Hopefully you'll enjoy it too.
