Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings

book 54: Pawn of Prophecy by David Eddings

This is the first book in The Belgariad series by Eddings. It is typical fantasy, somewhat based on the Tolkien formula...individuals taking on world-saving quests. This first book introduces the characters and uncovers some of their true natures and purposes. More-or-less, it creates the "fellowship" for this adventure. The characters were fairly interesting and likeable. I am looking forward to finding out more in the next book Queen of Sorcery, whenever I get around to that. Compared to other fantasies that I have read, I liked it better than the first of Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, worse than Martin's first Song of Ice and Fire, and about the same as Jordan's first Wheel of Time. I don't rate anything compared to Tolkien, because his work holds a special place for me. :P
