Book written by J.K. Rowling although under the pretense of having been written by the ficticious Newt Scamander. It documents a huge number of fantasy creatures which presumably made an appearance at some point in the Harry Potter series.
I love the way the book shows Rowling's vivid imagination, which feels at times inspired by Edgar Allen Poe (one of my favourite asides involves the Loch Ness Monster being a kelpie).
I enjoyed the biography provided for Newt Scamander, providing a background for even the fictional writer, although my favourite touch was the handwritten notes supposedly by Ron Weasley, providing the book's humour.
