Books 46-49: home stretch

46. The Mistletoe Murder and Other Stories by P.D. James – four previously uncollected short murder stories – the titular story is the author’s description of the incident that set her on the path to her writing career – also includes two stories featuring Sgt. Dalgliesh and a stand-alone story about a particularly unpleasant fellow who witnesses a murder but doesn’t report it to the authorities – read for mystery book club
47. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeliene L’Engle – childhood favorite reread in preparation for the upcoming movie adaptation – Meg Murry along with her younger brother and an assortment of friends endeavor to rescue her father who disappeared during a time travel experiment
48. The Tiger’s Wife by Tea Obreht – the winding story of a young woman in an unnamed Balkan city who tries to learn the truth behind the unexpected death of her grandfather – beautifully written but a bit odd for me – mixture of fairy tale and reality - reading ahead for January's book club selection
49. The Ultimate Gift by Jim Stovall – a young man of privilege has to meet several challenges in order to inherit his great uncle’s fortune – a bit formulaic but nonetheless touching and thought provoking - December's book club selection
