November 2017 reading

November 2017 reading:

50. Shattered Shields, edited by Jennifer Brozek and Bryan Thomas Schmidt (260 pages)
I picked this up for the Seanan McGuire piece, but found myself plunged into many different worlds in the other stories as well. I enjoyed nearly all of them, and was particularly happy with the diversity in the pieces.

51. Temporally Out of Order, edited by Joshua Palmatier and Patricia Bray (292 pages)
I picked this up for the Faith Hunter and Seanan McGuire pieces, but all of these were absolutely fascinating. Definitely an enjoyable read!

52. The Patient Admits, by Avery M. Guess (24 pages)
A colleague lent me this chapbook. The focus is on mental illness, including depression and PTSD following child abuse, and the quest for quiet healing. The poems are raw and haunting, powerful in their vulnerability. I’m glad I had the opportunity to read them.
