This is another Arthur C. Clarke re-read, and I originally reviewed this book here: https://gavluvsga.livejournal.com/2012/04/29/
I enjoyed reading this again, mostly because of Dave Bowman and HAL returning. Although the novel did constantly recap the reader on the events of the first book, presumably for the benefit of anyone who read this without reading the original, the action did pick up in the second half. I'd forgotten about the climactic events, and was able to enjoy it once again. I like how this book does clarify some things about the original book, but leaves new questions unanswered. The only drawback is that I suspect Arthur C. Clarke was making it all up as he went along.
