This book opens in a mundane fashion, with Agatha Raisin trying to find a place to get highlights for her hair; soon she is falling in love with her new hairdresser, and dating him, only to suspect that he may be blackmailing people. Thus, she and Charles start attempting to investigate him, mostly by having Agatha gain his trust, and then see if he will blackmail her.
This is a murder mystery of course, and there is more than one killing, although the first killing does not occur until over a third of the way into the story, and at this point the narrative picks up a bit. Most of the plot involves Agatha questioning blackmail victims, although there are a few distractions in the form of her will-they-won't-they relationship with Charles.
Overall, this book was okay, but not the best in the series; not the wort either. I noticed there seemed to be more humour in this one than in some of the previous titles in the series, and afer the final unveiling, it became almost farcical. The only problem was that - to me anyway - the book's epilogue wasn't quite as funny as it seemed to think it was (mostly the same joke involving Agatha's hair), and the narrative started feeling unnecessarily long-winded.
