Book 66

The middle brother of an Australian ranching family is found dead in the Outback shortly before Christmas, and the circumstances are mystifying. Was it bad judgment, suicide, or murder? As the rest of the family tries to come to grips with the loss and the mystery, we learn through the oldest brother’s point of view about the clan’s history and their place on the land. We also learn about just what it takes to live in such an unforgiving landscape where your nearest neighbor is hours away and your groceries arrive every few months in a refrigerated truck. This was another atmospheric page-turner from the author, with a sneaky reference to characters in her ongoing series. Read 30 November-1 December.
